Flower Bed

Flower Bed
Acrylic on canvas | 24" × 40"

There’s nothing quite like finding the perfect place for a nap!

Stretched out in a colourful summer meadow, this young foal has discovered a flower bed of its own. Surrounded by wildflowers, tall grasses and the warmth of a summer afternoon, it seems completely content to let the world carry on without it.

I loved playing with the contrast between the rich chestnut tones of the foal, the vibrant reds and yellows of the wildflowers, and the many shades of green in the meadow. Loose, lively brushwork brings the flowers and grasses to life, while the foal's peaceful expression captures that special sweetness and innocence of youth.

Flower Bed is a celebration of the simple pleasures of country life, and a gentle reminder that sometimes the best place to be is right where you are.
